More Racial Profiling For Me In Westport, Ct

There was hardly anyone on the Boston Post Road that night as I left Oracle World Headquarters in Stamford, CT. I was in no rush as I listened to my favorite Jazz Radio Station on my way home. I saw the headlights through my rear view mirror as they came bearing down on me like an illumination from a UFO. Suddenly the vehicle became side by side with my SUV. I glare over at them (two white Cops) while they both had their devilish eyes fixed upon me. I gave a simple nod to acknowledge them and checked my speedometer to make sure I was traveling at a lawful speed. I glanced back and noticed that the marked Police Vehicle had now faded back to my rear. Now their code one (Emergency Lights activated) and drifting behind me. I pull over and prepare for what I find to be a growing occurence. A Black Man being stopped by Town Police during the early morning hours. I sit there awaiting their bullshit field interview while another Police Vehicle approaches. Now here they come, flashlights glaring in my vehicle, sweeping it to find some illegal item. I state to them poignantly, “how can I help you” . The Cop on the passenger side barks, ” drivers license, registration, and proof of insurance” As I gather the requested credentials I ask what am I being pulled over for. There is no reply to my inquiry, but my wallet (contains a hidden compartment for my shield with a Blue Cover flap) does arouse the interest of the Cop at my drivers side window. “Are you a Police Office Sir”, he exclaims. I return the favor and don’t answer him either. I present my documents and they retreat to their Patrol Vehicles to run my license and due a warrant check through NCIC (National Criminal Information Center in Washington D.C.) I suspect. After a short time they return and advise me that I have a License plate light out. I look at them individually with a blank stare as I thought to myself that I probably have more time “On the Job” than all three of them combined. The Cop goes on to instruct me on how to replace the light as if he works at Nissan himself. I shake my head, say thank you, roll up my window, and drive off. What’s disturbing to me about that entire ordeal is that they had nothing else better to do but pull over a law abiding citizen while crime is actually taking place some where in their Town. I travel that road every night, the same way, and I know they recognized my vehicle. I guess it was my turn that night. It’s quite obvious to me that they were profiling me, because why pull up beside me, then fade back, and pull me over? Didn’t they see the License Plate light out before they pulled along beside me? I am just asking, because it seems to me that if I were going to cite a driver for some bullshit like that, that I would have zoomed right in on it. There is no doubt in my mind that the light only became an issue when they realized that the driver was a Black Man. The message is and always has been crystal clear to me. Westport Cops are sending a message to people of color. Don’t drive through our Town late night. If you decide to venture through Westport, CT know that the order of business will be “More Racial Profiling”
